A Dialogue - Democracy and Human Rights
In sixty-four countries, people may still be sentenced to death for the crimes they have committed, despite the United Nation's recent call for a worldwide moratorium. Amnesty International routinely reports violations of Human Rights even in first-world countries, and civil liberties are infringed upon in the name of counterterrorism. The great wave of Democratisation of the late 20th century appears to be rolling back, as some important countries shift towards more authoritarian forms of government. How did these challenging situations come about. How can they be alleviated? Join us for a discussion with an outspoken defender of Human Rights and Democracy, who leads an organisation whose mission it is to foster multinational understanding and co-operation as well as humanitarian values.
