[CANCELLED] The Rhetoric of Rights II
Since 9/11, the security situation in the world has undoubtedly changed, and new forms of protection may be needed to guard us from further terrorist attacks. However, many believe some of our basic rights are being eroded in the name of security, whether this is in the infringement on the right to protest, detention without trial, or extradition. This panel debate, which forms the second of the two-parted Rhetoric of Rights theme, will aim to look at the practical implementation of security mechanisms, from both sides of the debate, and the underlying question will be the pertinence and validity of Benjamin Franklin's statement: "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither security nor liberty".
