January 11 2008 marks the 6th anniversary of the existence of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Prison and the legal black hole inherent in it. It is difficult to comprehend how a prison that exists in disputed territory, where basic customary rights are denied, including those provided for under the Geneva Convention and the eight century-old Habeas Corpus, was established by the world's self-proclaimed champion of human rights. The Guantanamo question doubts not only a democratic state's ability to stop the creation and operation of such prison camps, but also the ability citizens have to protect their most fundamental rights. "6 Years of Guantanamo" focuses on the truth about Guantanamo and seeks to address this terrible lacuna in international law.
