Suicide Terrorism
The 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks transformed our lives. Since, the media have been continuously feeding us news, analysis and speculation about suicide terrorism around the world. Various theories have been drawn about the causes and aims of suicide terrorism. Nevertheless, the practical response to this phenomenon has mostly been the same as to traditional conflicts: conventional warfare. But do the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq actually counter suicide terrorism, or facilitate it?
Many questions remain unanswered: are the so called 'Rogue Regimes' the main source of suicide terrorism; does suicide terrorism stem from ideological or rational considerations; can the 'War on Terrorism' be won? Perhaps no ultimate answer exists, but that should not stop us from considering the alternatives.
